Sister Angelique is the 2013 UNHCR Nansen Award winner! She has helped thousands of displaced women in the DRC escape brutality and is truly an inspiration to us all! Sister Angelique said some of the women have had traumatic experiences - some being captured by the rebels as young as 11 or 12 and given to rebels soldiers as their wives. The UNHCR says these vulnerable women and girls are often ostracised by their own families and communities because of their ordeal. She takes them in and provides sewing workshops so they can provide for themselves with their new skill. "I also have an oven at home, I bake breads every day which I sell, the money from the bread helped me to organise other activities for the women," she told the BBC. When someone makes such a significant difference in peoples lives with little to no resources, it makes us all work that much harder to really make a change in the world.
